Indian Journal of Horticulture is the official publication of the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences . The Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences (erstwhile the Horticultural Society of India) established in 1942 in Lyallpur (West Punjab) now in Pakistan, is a premier Horticulture Academy of India involved in the promotion of overall Horticulture. Though the Society was formed on January1, 1942, started its different activities since inception and publishing of the Indian Journal of Horticulture (w.e.f. 1943).It was formally registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 on 6th November 1951 and granted Certificate No. 607 of 1951-52 to the society by the Registrar. Later on 24.07.2019, it was formally renamed by the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 as Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences. It has 1900 life members from all over the country.
It was established to achieve the following objectives:
- To cultivate and promote research, education, and development of Horticulture and allied branches of Science.
- To recognize and support excellence achieved in scientific research and development in the field of Horticulture by individual scientists, inter-disciplinary teams, recognized institutions, learned societies and industry.
- To promote contact and co-operation among R&D personnel working in different institutions and areas (including growers and industry).
- To regularly bring out the Indian Journal of Horticulture and any other publication decided by the Academy.
- To disseminate knowledge on all Horticultural crops and their different aspects by holding seminars, symposia, conferences, discussions, etc. and publishing their proceedings.
- To secure and manage funds and endowments for the promotion of Horticulture in all its aspects.
- To undertake other activities relevant to accomplish the above objectives.
